In a program that can be tailored for string quartet or mixed ensemble, ACME performs the music of 2013, 2014, and 2015 Pulitzer Prize winners Caroline Shaw, John Luther Adams, and Julia Wolfe plus selections by Bryce Dessner of The National and the incomparable Meredith Monk, in a program showcasing five celebrated American composers. John Luther Adams' The Wind in High Places is built on natural harmonics and open strings, creating a beautiful, vaporous sound world. Bryce Dessner's Little Blue Something was written for the Kronos Quartet in 2012, and weaves together diverse influences including obscure Czech viola da gamba performers Irena and Vojtěch Havel. Based on a Thomas Tallis motet, Shaw's in manus tuas is a dramatic and intense work for solo cello. Stringsongs is seldom performed, and a rare instrumental work by the iconic vocalist/composer Meredith Monk. Julia Wolfe's driven, folk-inspired Four Marys for string quartet or her Believing for chamber ensemble complete the program.
